FAQ

  • What ages do you serve?

    Patients 17 years and older.

  • Do you see patients in-person or through telehealth?

Both, although meeting face-to-face is preferred, given the personal nature of this work. Telehealth is also available through the Google Meets HIPAA-compliant video conferencing platform.

  • What’s the best way to schedule an appointment?

Reach out through the contact link to arrange a complimentary phone consultation.

  • What can new patients expect?

I offer a bespoke approach to every patient relationship. Some prefer to begin by interviewing me and learning more about my philosophy at the first consultation. Others are keen to get started, in which case I take a full medical and psychological history at our first and second appointments. I may request labs to rule out medical causes and contributors to symptoms.

With expressed and written consent, I may make time to connect with those who may be helpful to better understand a patient (e.g. loved ones, primary care providers, or prior mental health clinicians). Only after I have learned enough to make an informed recommendation will I suggest a plan of care. This may include lifestyle changes, medications, supplements, psychotherapy and/or referrals to those with expertise outside my scope of practice.

  • What is your therapeutic stance?

Read about my therapy treatment philosophy here. Simply put, I pull heavily from modern relational psychoanalytic thinking and, when indicated, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for relapse prevention and Motivational Enhancement Therapy.

  • Is my personal patient health information secure?

I take confidentiality seriously. Patient records are maintained in compliance with the highest standards of privacy and protection, including secured servers with bank-level encryption through the Simple Practice medical records system. Communication is encouraged to take place exclusively through this venue, or by telephone under emergency circumstances. Click here to access my formal notice of privacy policies.

  • Do you take insurance?

I am out-of-network for all insurances due to my commitment to provide flexible, patient-driven care. Payment is accepted by card only (credit/debit/health savings account). A superbill is available to submit to insurance for reimbursement if you have out-of-network benefits. In some cases, a single-case agreement with your insurance company may allow for in-network level of coverage.

  • What are your fees?

Contact me for my current rates. My fees are commensurate with those of similar experience and training.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

If cancellation is necessary, I kindly ask patients to provide two business days notice as a courtesy to others who may need that time slot. A late cancellation incurs the full session fee. Cancellations related to an unforeseeable emergency will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

  • Do you offer consultations?

Yes. I provide consultations for individuals who have questions or concerns about their diagnosis or current treatment. I do require a patient’s consent to discuss care with the current provider (if applicable) for a second-opinion consultation. I also provide ongoing and one-time consultations to other clinicians, including psychiatrists or other health professionals.

  • Do you charge for filling out forms, writing letters, talking with other providers, or calls and messages between appointments?

Brief calls under 15 minutes are not billed, but longer calls, including those for medically necessary collaboration, are charged at my hourly rate. Similarly, paperwork, prior authorizations, emails, and letters requiring more than 15 minutes will incur the same charge.

  • Do you have any financial conflict of interests in your practice?

I do not accept payments from drug or medical device companies or treatment centers of any kind. This can be verified on the CMS Open Payments website, as required by the federal Physician Payments Sunshine Act, which publicly discloses conflictual payments over $10 to physicians and teaching hospitals.

  • Where can I find the Medical Board of California’s Notice to Patients?
